Hajee Yusof bin Abbhu Dhammalingam

Hajee Yusof son of Abbhu Dhammalingam the local shaman converted to Islam ten years prior to the vampire incident and have even made the hajj pilgrimage.

His ancestors had been shaman-priests for generations. He has a deep understanding of Hindu scriptures. He has an even deeper comprehension of Hindu theo-kinetics than his father but he chose to be muslim and is very well-versed with the Quran and the Sunni Hadith.

His full name would be Hajee Yusof bin Dhammalignga Bhratya. But his Arab trading compatriots, both Christian and Muslim could not be comfortable being on intimate terms with someone whose name sounded to have possible association with any hindu idol, deity or concept. Even though, and little do they realise, that the Sanskrit meaning of his father's name is subservient dependant of the Progenitor of Righteousness. If christian or muslim sacred scriptures were translated into Sanskrit, Dhammalignga Bhratya would not be an inappropriate devout christian or muslim name.

Hence, he preferred simply to be just Hajee Yusof.

Though, now a devout Muslim, he continued his ancestral practice of Shamanism. He has nonetheless good understanding of the Quran and the Sunni Hadith. He believes that the schismatic Hindus all around him have misunderstood their religion and have been corrupted by their lack of understanding and laziness to seek the path to the Universal Creator and Destroyer. The Hindu scriptures were too complex and too prone to misconceptualisation for these people and Islam offered a more direct and comprehensive access to the Universal Supreme.

There has been too much sectarian and religious violence and civil wars in the region. He believes that peace and relief would come when people attain understanding of divine will.
